The State of Patent Litigation: A Conversation with the Federal Circuit
On Monday, September 24, 2012, the Center hosted a conference titled, “The State of Patent Litigation: A Conversation with the Federal Circuit.” The event was held in cooperation with the Federal Circuit Bar Association and was sponsored by the Center for Intellectual Property Research, Cook Medical and Faegre Baker Daniels.
The event kicked-off with a musical performance by Denovo, featuring Chief Judge Randall Rader, Professor Sean O’Connor and additional special guest musicians at Max’s Place in Bloomington.
The following morning, the conference began with a enlightening panel session held in the Moot Court Room moderated by Professor Marshall Leaffer. Participants included: Chief Judge Randall Rader, Judge Larry J. McKinney (US District Court – Southern District of Indiana), Chief Judge Richard L. Young (US District Court – Southern District of Indiana), and Chief Judge Philip P. Simon (US District Court – Northern District of Indiana).
After lunch, a second panel session was convened in the moot court room. This session, which focused on Academic Perspectives, was moderated by Professor Michael Mattioli, and participants included Colleen Chien (Santa Clara University), Timothy Holbrook (Emory University), and Sean O’Connor (University of Washington), John M. Whealan (George Washington University).
At 3:30pm, another panel session was held, focused on the perspectives of practitioners. This session, which was moderated by Professor Mark Janis, included Sharon Barner (Cummins, Inc.), Trevor Carter (Faegre Baker Daniels), Greg Castanias (Jones Day, Washington D.C.), , and Don Knebel (Barnes & Thornburg).
