Read About PatentConnect’s Kentucky Launch Event in Louisville
In late 2017 the United States Patent and Trademark Office designated CIPR’s pro bono patent matching service, PatentConnect, as the patent hub for Kentucky along with Indiana. Since PatentConnect’s launch in 2015 as the designated hub for Indiana, the CIPR has engaged over one third of Indiana’s 92 counties with pro bono IP through outreach efforts in cities such as Indianapolis, West Lafayette, Evansville, and Bloomington.
To mark the start of PatentConnect’s coverage of Kentucky, we held our first Launch event in Louisville on Tuesday, September 18th.
At the event, IP Clinic and PatentConnect Director Norm Hedges gave a brief overview of IP law and shared practical information with the audience regarding how to utilize PatentConnect and the USPTO Law School Clinic Certification Program.
Tara Ho (Patent Pro Bono Assistant Coordinator, USPTO) and James Wilson (Assistant Regional Director, Elijah J. McCoy Midwest Regional Office) also spoke about the many free resources for inventors and entrepreneurs throughout the Kentucky and Southern Indiana region. The highlight of the event was our IP lawyer panel of Lars Smith (University of Louisville), Elizabeth Threlkeld (Middleton Reutlinger), and Megan Gibson (Middleton Reutlinger). The panel provided their insight on the important hurdles facing entrepreneurs and small business and how to best navigate them. A time for Q&A with the panel was reserved for the end of the event.
We would like to give a special thanks to Lars Smith, Will Metcalf (Director, Brandeis School of Law Entrepreneurship Law Clinic), and the University of Louisville for hosting our event.
