Read About Our Recent Outreach Event in Fort Wayne

As the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s designated patent hub for Indiana, the CIPR prioritizes outreach to all regions of the state to spread the word about the pro bono patent matching service, PatentConnect, and the other pro bono IP resources available through the Maurer IP Legal Clinic.

Since PatentConnect’s launch in 2015, the CIPR has engaged over one third of Indiana’s 92 counties with pro bono IP through outreach efforts in cities such as Indianapolis, West Lafayette, Evansville, and Bloomington. In an effort to better spread the word to the Northeast region of the state, last Thursday the CIPR held its LaunchIP: Fort Wayne event at Allen County Public Library.

At the event, Clinic Director Norm Hedges and IP Clinic Students Rafael and Trevor gave a brief overview of IP law and shared practical information with the audience regarding how to utilize PatentConnect and the Maurer IP Legal Clinic.

Dr. Christal Sheppard, Director of the Elijah J. McCoy Regional USPTO, also spoke about the many free resources for inventors and entrepreneurs within a short drive of Fort Wayne at the Midwest Regional office in Detroit, MI.

A time for Q&A was reserved for the end of the event, which involved all speakers as well as a former client of the Maurer IP Clinic whose business has grown to the point that he elected to begin paying for IP legal services. Perspectives of how pro bono IP law enhances economic development efforts were a theme throughout the evening.

Thank you to all who attended our Fort Wayne Launch!
