Read About the IP Alumni Panel

The Intellectual Property Association kicked off its fall semester events on Tuesday, August 29th with the IP Alumni Panel and Reception.

Current IP students got to hear from five of our recent IP graduates about their law school experiences and the career paths they’ve been on since graduation, from IP boutique to big law.

Each alumni offered a unique perspective on how Maurer prepared them for the work they do today. For some, participating in IP extracurricular activities, such as the IP Clinic and IP Moot Court, was what they felt best prepared them for the careers they are in now. For others, taking advantage of every possible IP course offering during law school has proved the most useful, having given them the vocabulary and frame of reference to be involved in all aspects of IP in their day-to-day work. The alumni also emphasized the relevance of non-IP specific courses, such as Legal Writing and Civil Procedure, in their daily practice.

Students and alumni enjoyed a casual reception following the panel discussion to network, swap stories, and learn from one another’s peers.

Thank you again to our IP Alumni who participated in the panel: Emily Pence (’13), Jeff Furminger (’16), Abe Shanehsaz (’14), Gretchen Parrish (’15), and Blake Hartz (’12).

A special thank you to Mattingly, Burke, Cohen, & Biederman for sponsoring our reception.
