Read About the IP Clinic’s Copyright 101 for Creators

Edited-6

The IU Maurer Intellectual Property Legal Clinic provides pro bono patent and trademark services to Indiana inventors and entrepreneurs while also providing valuable hands-on experience for 2L and 3L IP law students. One skill tangential to the practice of IP law is public communication. Clinic students build up that skill by engaging in at least one outreach event for the public each semester.

This week, Clinic students Yifan Huang, Jeffrey Soller, and Joshua White presented on copyright law and fair use as a part of Monroe County Public Library‘s Level Up workshop series in Bloomington. Level Up is a digital creativity center where patrons of the library can use shared equipment, such as sound recording studios and green screens, to make and express their art.

Local creators learned about the basics of copyright and the fair use defense while having a space to ask what questions were most relevant to their type of creative expression, be it recording music videos for YouTube or running a blog. Thank you to everyone who attended and for the questions you brought with you!
