Adjunct Professor of Law
Jessica Van Dalen is an adjunct professor for the Patent section of the Intellectual Property Clinic since 2014. Professor Van Dalen is also a member of the Intellectual Property Clinic Advisory Board since 2016.
Jessica Van Dalen is an associate in the intellectual property group of Faegre Baker Daniels LLP. There, she works with clients to prepare and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as well as government entities in Japan, Europe, Canada, Australia and other countries. Jessica also has experience in licensing agreements, portfolio analysis, and opinion work related to infringement and patent invalidity. She works primarily in the mechanical arts but focused her engineering curriculum on polymer science and molecular-level interactions between materials.
During law school, Jessica was a summer associate at Faegre Baker Daniels in 2009 and summer clerk at another Indianapolis law firm in 2008. While pursuing her bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering, she served as a co-op engineer with Raybestos Products Co. in Crawfordsville from 2003 to 2005, gaining experience in heavy-duty friction materials used primarily for automotive and agricultural vehicle applications. Jessica also was an engineering research assistant at Purdue University from 2006 to 2007, where she focused on formulations and testing of adhesives used for joining metallic substrates.
