Xan Smith earned her M.A. in Psychological and Brain Sciences from Indiana University in 2016 and her B.A. in Psychology from Earlham College in 2013. After graduating from IU, Xan worked for Anagin Inc. as a Research Associate where she developed novel compounds to treat PTSD and related neurological diseases. Xan joined the Center for Intellectual Property Research as our Administrative Assistant in February 2018.
As the Center’s Administrative Assistant, Xan acts as a coordinator for the Center’s two pro bono services: the Intellectual Property Clinic and PatentConnect. With over 100 open IP matters, Xan’s role with the IP Clinic provides consistency for our clients even as clinic students change each semester. With PatentConnect, the USPTO’s designated pro bono Patent Hub for Indiana and Kentucky, Xan tracks and matches inventors to IP attorneys across the region.
Despite being a Texan who dreamed of living in Oregon, Xan took what she thought was a pit-stop in Indiana to study Psychology and ended up falling in love Bloomington’s unique mix of exciting city life and relaxing country atmosphere. In addition to providing office support, Xan can always recommend salsa dancing and table-top events happening around town.
